Government Center Garage
JDC Demolition was contacted by Tishman Construction Corporation and HYM Investment Group to perform the demolition package at the Government Center Parking Garage. This was the first phase of contruction to facilitate two large towers, one office, and one residential tower which will revitalize the entire Government Center Area of Boston. JDC was first tasked to perform enabling demolition which consisted of cutting openings through the ten story garage which will facilitate new steel cross bracing utilized to strengthen the portion of the garage to remain. JDC's other scope of work included removal of the 9th and 10 floor office areas in a portion of the garage and removal of 96 pre-cast concrete single tees, topping slabs, columns, and spandrel beams weighing in excess of 95,000 LBS. Because of the concern for dust and noise during demolition in an active parking garage, the building was dismantled utilizing saw-cutting and crane removal methods on off hours shifts. JDC mobilized a large crane to pick pieces of the garage and lower them to the ground. Pieces of the pre-cast concrete garage were removed from the site in large of pieces as possible to minimize downsizing on-site.
